In other news, Friends in Bellwoods II comes out August 25. There’s a cd release party at Lee’s Palace on Friday August 28th and a release party/bbq at the Tranzac on Saturday August 29th.

And finally, we’re playing the Virgin Festival at the Molson Ampitheatre on Sunday August 30th. Crazy.  Can we get a D’UBERVILLES?!

Tonight’s the night. Our last evening of recording in Montreal is upon us.  It’s been a solid four days and we’re really excited with what we’ve accomplished. Kyle laid down some sweet bass grooves before leaving us for the Northwest Territories and the Folk On The Rocks Festival with our pals Forest City Lovers. He also took his camera with him, which explains the quality of the following photograph, taken on my laptop using a setting called “Thermal.”

It’s our engineer Drew Malamud and part of Tim’s guitar. Honestly, some of these camera settings are pretty cool in a sort of “we just discovered Photoshop and it’s 1995″ kind of way.

Anyways, it’s back to Ontario with us. We’re playing V Fest in Orillia this August and I’ve gotta start lifting weights if I’m going to stand a chance of beating Trent Reznor in an arm-wrestle backstage.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our set last Wednesday at the Drake.  It was nice to see so many happy faces and kick NXNE off with a bang.  There were some seriously good shows this past weekend, no?

For those of you that missed our set, we’re going to be playing again this Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art during the opening of their newest exhibition, Pulp Fiction.  Admission is gratis (although the beer will cost you) and the event is open to folks of all ages.

We’ll be turning our amps on around 9 pm for all you hardcores, so watch your (wild) steps!

We were also fortunate enough to perform alongside local heroes and my new favourite band of the now and future now – PS I Love U.  There will be plenty more about them later in the week, but please do your ears a favour and check these dudes out in the meantime.

The night started with some good time glock rock courtesy of the T-Dot’s Hooded Fang.  These kids were super fun and some of them also run an all-ages concert series called Daps Duo at Rolly’s Garage on Ossington, which is totally the bomb.  Check them out!

Bocce was next and they need no introduction.  I was hoping they’d let me onstage for a vocal cameo but no dice.   Screw you, dudes.  Next time I’m going to wait in the car until your set’s over.  I also forgot to take photos, so the best I can give you is a pic that I ripped off Tony’s Facebook page of him and the dudes in Knock Knock Ginger playing a house party.  They’re called Battlesnake.  Can this band happen more often, please?

After that Lioness played and they had sooo much equipment which was really awesome and they let us borrow all of it too which was even more awesome. The highlight of our set was me forgetting the words in the second verse of our new song Junkpile.  Whew.

Once all was said and done we headed out for some late night slow dancing to Chris Isaak covers at the Lazy Flamingo.  So smooth.  You rock, Hamilton!

PS.  You’ve got your work cut out for you, Ottawa.  Get a good night’s sleep because tomorrow will be cray-zee.

We just added a whole bunch of new shows that I might as well tell you about, too! This April we’ll be hitting up some of our favourite venues with the soulfully danceable Lioness and our hockey loving compatriots Bocce. Expect a broken ankle or two, cause these shows are gonna be gnarly.

Last but certainly not least, we’re going to be performing in our old jam space at Guelph’s Family Thrift Store this Friday night along with some awesome friends. The Thrift Store is moving from it’s current location at the end of the month, so please come out and celebrate with Ray, Jenny, and all the other folks who work so hard to make Guelph such a great place.
